   Teacher’s strategies to motivate students in learning is important. This research tries to find out what the teacher’s strategies to motivate students. This research uses descriptive qualitative method. In taking sample for questionnaire and interview the researcher take the teacher who teaches English in seventh grade. There is only one teacher who teaches English in seventh grade at SMPN 3 Tamiang Layang. Therefore, the subject of this research is the English teacher of SMPN 3 Tamiang Layang. The instruments of the research are questionnaire and interview.

   Based on the data found in the research, the teacher’s strategies to seventh grade students in learning English are explain the objective of the lesson, giving praise and prize, giving task, and using media, making group and using games too.

     Based on the findings, it is suggested that the teacher to use strategies in teaching. Therefore, the students will be more interest and be more motivated to the study English and it is suggested to other researchers who want to conduct the similar ares of the research plan, prepare and do the procedure of the research plan well in order to get the best result.
