            This research was conducted to invistigate how Indonesian passive constrution in the context of tale “Anak Sugih Teken Tiwas” and its translation “The Rich and The Poor”. The aim of this research are (1) to found out the corresponding equivalents of Indonesian passive constructions in English are used in the context of the tale “Anak Sugih Teken Tiwas” and its translation “The Rich and The Poor”; and (2) to found the types of Indonesian passive constructions are retained as passive in their translatiojn equivalents into English. The instruments used in collected the data was the documentation itself. The data used in this research were totally taken from a book of Balinese tales “Satua Bali” in which the story “Anak Sugih Teken Tiwas” and its translation “The Rich and The Poor”. The researcher used observation and document analysis method to identify the data.

            After collected and analyzed the data, in general the researcher found that there are many passives construction in Indonesian which can be identified in SL, from the tale “Anak Sugih Teken Tiwas”, which are marked by attachment of prefix di- (prefix di- +  verb base  +  agent phrase: prefix di- + verb base + suffix + agent phrase). The result data analysis clearly so passive marked by the attachment of prefix di- (di- + verb base and di- + verb base + suffix). This clearly reveals that some passives in SL are retained and translated into passives in English and some others are translated into actives.
