In teaching and learning process, motivation is a factor that is suspected big
influence of students’ learning achievement. Students who has high motivation
are suspected would be got great learning achievement, and students who has low
motivation are suspected would got low learning achivement.
This study is a study conducted in order to find out how the correlation
between students’ motivation and their GPA is. This thesis uses correlative design
to find the correlation based on the two variables. The subject of this research are
the students of English Department Batch 2015, consist of 87 students. In order to
get the data, the researcher uses questionnaire and documentation. The researcher
concludes the result by analyzing the questionnaire’s score and students’ GPA.
Based on the data analysis, the researcher draws a conclusion that there is
rather low correlation between variable X (students’ motivation) and variable Y
(students’ GPA). It is found by the result discussions that the correlation is 0.466.
The suggestions that can be given based on the research result are: a).The
lecturers should give motivation to the students while the class is starting because
the motivation can affected their learning achievement. b).The lecturers should be
able to make teaching and learning activities be more interesting. c). The students
should increase their awareness and effort in order to get information and
knowledge to help them more understand and master the material easily. d).The
students are expected to be more active in the class.
