            This research aimed to find out the implementation of generating ideas techniques in exploring ideas before writing and the most technique that the students of English Language Education Study Program in Lambung Mangkurat University batch 2018 use in exploring ideas before writing. This study used mixed method as the approach of the research. 25 students were selected by using random sampling. This research study used questionnaire and interview as the instrument. The data were analyzed by using mixed method approach.

            This research described the use of generating ideas techniques in writing. This research was aimed to analyze the students’ perception and opinion in the use of generating ideas techniques. This research revealed that the students used generating ideas to exploring ideas before writing. Free writing and listing as the most techniques that used by students. Some of students sometimes mixed between free writing and listing techniques in exploring ideas before writing.
