The teacher in teaching must pay attention to how the right way to deliver the material, make students understand, and be active when learning in the classroom. However, every teacher may have a different teaching style even though the goals are the same. This research is intended to investigate the teacher’s teaching style in the English class of eighth-grade students of SMPN 23 Banjarmasin. The research aim was further to describe the style that the teacher used in teaching eighth-grade students.

This research is a descriptive research design. The subject of the research was two English teachers from eighth-grade of SMPN 23 Banjarmasin, and there were two classes that the researcher observed. The instruments used were observation and interview.

From the data analysis, the researcher found that the teaching style of English teachers at eighth-grade students of SMPN 23 Banjarmasin was formal authority and facilitator. Based on the research findings, it is suggested to the teachers to understand the characteristics of all students and give some benefits to English teaching. The teacher expected to motivate the students so it can increase student interest in learning English. Since all of the students have different characteristics, the teacher should understand not to discriminate against the students’ differences, such as the gender of the student.
