Speaking anxiety is common problem faced by students in learning to speak a foreign language. This feeling should be the first thing to explore considered it have a negative impact on speak in foreign language. This study focused on the level of speaking anxiety perceived by the fourth-year students’ English Language Education Study Program of Lambung mangkurat University. Also, the study discusses the main three factors (communication apprehension, test anxiety and fear of negative evaluation) that contribute to their speaking activity.

The total of 80 fourth-year English Language Education students at Lambung Mangkurat University participated in this study. This study used quantitative approach. The Foreign Language Speaking Anxiety Scale (FLSAS) from Horwitz, Horwitz & Cope, (1986) has been adapted to collect data.

The findings of this study show that students experienced a low to medium level of speaking anxiety. Additionally, the findings of the study revealed that communication apprehension was the most provoking factor in speaking English. As suggestion, the teachers should be well prepared in teaching English, and the students hoped to keep the low level of their speaking anxiety as expected as to achieve a good level of learning speaking. Moreover, for other researchers, it is suggested to the future researchers to conduct research related to English Speaking Anxiety in a different major.
