Evaluation is essential to guarantee the quality of education as the results of
teaching-learning process. Oneform of evaluation is test. Atest can be said as a
good testif it fulfills several requirements such as validity, reliability, level of
difficulty, discrimination index, and the efficiency of distractor. One of the efforts
to know the quality of a test is by analyzing the test items
The research usesthe descriptive method with quantitative approach
because it tries to described the quality of the test items based on the validity,
reliability, level of difficulty, discriminating power, and distractor efficiency. It is
analyzed by using Item and Test Program Analysis (ITEMAN) version MicroCat
3.0. The sample of this research was the English final test for 7thgrade students at
SMPN 24 Banjarmasin.
The research findingsshow that: (1) based on content validity, all items are
consideredvalid because the items are in harmony with the objective in the syllabus.
Moreover, based on item validity, 82% oftest items were valid,and 18% of the test
itemswere invalid; (2) the reliability of the English final test is categorized as high
reliability with Cronbatch alpha 0.800; (3) there were 16% of items considered as
difficult items, 44%items were considered as moderateitems, and 40%items were
considered aseasyitems; (4) 2% of the item hasvery poor discrimination power,
16% of the itemshave poor discrimination power, 22% of the itemshave
satisfactory discrimination power, 50% of the itemshave good discrimination
power, and 10% of the itemshave very good discrimination power; (5) 9% of the
have very bad distractor efficiency, 16% of the itemshave bad distractor efficiency,
24% of the itemshave good distractor efficiency, and 54% of the itemshave very
good distractor efficiency; (6) based on the quality of the item, 64% of the items
need to be revised or discarded.
Based on the research findings, it can be concluded thatthe English final
test is having good content and item validity, the test also has high reliability,
moderate level of difficulty, good discrimination power, and good distractor
efficiency. However,when its analyzed by each item, the quality of the English
final testitem is considered as not good.It is suggested for the teacher to revised
and improved the quality of the test.
