Reading is one of the skills that students need to learn. In learning English, it is not only to understand the meaning of the texts, it also to comprehend the implied ideas of the text. The effective ways to help students in reading, various strategies can use by students in reading process. There are three categories that can use by students when reading the English texts there are; global strategies, problem solving strategies and support strategies. The researcher wants to analyze students’ reading strategies in reading English texts. This study aimed to identify the use of reading strategies implemented by English Language Education Study Program students in Lambung Mangkurat University batch 2019.

 

 

The type of this research was survey within quantitative approach. The participant of this research was the students of English Language Education Study Program batch 2019. The data were collected from questionnaire and used Likert Scale. The questionnaire called Survey of Reading Strategies (SORS) created by Mokhtari and Sheorey (2002). The questionnaire by divide 30 strategies strategies into three categories; global reading strategies (13), problem-solving strategies (8), and support reading strategies.        This result of this research showed that students of English Language Education Study Program batch 2019 used the reading strategies to help them easier in reading process. The problem-solving strategies is the highest strategies that students most use when reading English texts (Mean = 4,03) followed by global reading strategies (Mean = 3,63) and the least strategies that students use is support reading strategies (Mean =3,44) in moderate. The usage of reading strategy by students when reading English is high level even some students have medium level. The appropriate strategies are useful to help them to facing the problem in reading process. Lecturers are suggested to concern about students’ abilities in reading and more aware of the students’ needs in learning reading.
