The aim of this study was to findout whether there is any difference in the students’ writing descriptive text achievement between those who are taught using Mind Mapping Technique and Show Not Tell Technique in the eighth grade. This study took place at SMP Negeri 13Banjarmasin.

 

The method used in this study is a quantitative method with a quasi- experimental design. VIII D was chosen as the experimental class which was taught using Mind Mapping Technique while VIII C was chosen as the control class which was taught using Show Not Tell Technique. VIII D consist of 27 students and VIII C 28 Students

 

The result of this research showed that the students’ mean score in the experimental class was 58.07 in the pre-test and 77.55 in the post-test. Meanwhile, the students’ mean score in the control class was 58.42 in the pre-test and 62.21 in the post- test. The hypothesis testing found that the t-test value was 5.41 which was higher than the t- table (1.67). Thus, the Alternative Hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. Mind Mapping Technique was successfully affected students' skills in writing descriptive text. It is suggested for the teacher to use Mind Mapping Technique in teaching writing descriptive text than Show Not Tell Technique.
