This research is aimed to find out the kind of translation method that is usually usedby the English Language Education Study Program students of Lambung Mangkurat University Banjarmasin Batch 2017 in translating text.

This research used descriptive qualitative method where the subjects of this research were 10 students of ELESPbatch 2017who have taken translation course. The data of this research are obtained from test, questionnaires, and interviews. There are three types of translation methodsused by the students of ELESP, there were is Word for word Translation, Literal Translation, Free Translation.

The result of the research is three students use Word for word Translation. Then, five students used Literal Translation.  Next, two students used Free Translation in translating process. The method that the students mostly used is Literal Translation. Therefore, the students who used Word for word Translation method because sometimes there is the sentence that needs to translate one by one. The students who used this method aimed to this method is easier to understand and it is a simple way to learning as a beginner translator. On the other side, the students who used Literal Translation because they usually try to find out the literal meaning but still consider the context. Since it is important to consider the context so people who speak with the target language can understand what we want to say to them. Last, the students who used Free Translation because they could translate and develop the sentence from the source language to the target language also the method is easy to use and suitable for translating.

 It is concluded that most of the students of ELESP batch 2017 not using only one method but they used one-three method in translating. On the occasion of this study, the results of recount texts were not always using literal translation method, these were only the statistic of the subjects in this study.  This research hopefully can help students and lecturers in order to consider the better usage of the Translation Method in translating text in the future.
