There are four skills in English namely listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. Writing is an essential skill in school and university study. Students will write in the form of a paragraph. As we know, at the end of the study, they should write a thesis in English. Writing a text plays an essential role for the undergraduated students of the English Department in Indonesia since it is one of the requirements to graduate from the university by submitting their final project reports written in English. One of the essential parts of the thesis is Chapter IV. Chapter IV is consists of research findings and a discussion of the research. Chapter IV is often called the result of the research. This study aimed to find out the cohesive devices on Chapter IV of undergraduated theses written by ELESP (English Language Education Study Program) of Lambung Mangkurat University.

The research method used in this study was a descriptive qualitative method. In this research, the researcher used the researcher itself and documentation as the instrument. It was based on the method where Chapter IV needed to be analyzed by the researcher since the researcher was the only one who understood what was to be analyzed in Chapter IV.

The findings of this research showed the students used the cohesive devices in writing their Chapter IV, such as reference, ellipsis, conjunction, reiteration, and collocation. The cohesive device that was dominantly used was reference followed by conjunction and ellipsis by the ELESP students to achieve cohesion in writing their Chapter IV, and substitution rarely is used by the students in writing their Chapter IV. In short, not all of the cohesive device was used.

It is suggested for the students to build awareness of the language aspects on grammatical cohesion and lexical cohesion to achieve cohesiveness in their writing. It is also suggested that further researchers conduct a study about grammatical cohesion and lexical cohesion to analyze the text's cohesion in other types of writing, specifically academic writing.
