Speaking skill is one of the four language skills that should be mastered by, in this case, students to be able to communicate with their surroundings. However, there are some difficulties for teachers to ask or to stimulate students to speak in English. In addition, in this pandemic covid-19 also has the barriers for the students to get the knowledge face to face. It is very important for English teachers to use interesting media especially the ones that give context to the students in the learning process such as videos and story jumper.

This study aims to find out the effectiveness of using video and story jumper to improve students' speaking ability and to investigate the most improved aspect of speaking by video and story jumper. The study was conducted in some of students in Lambung Mangkurat University. A quasi-experimental design was employed for this study. The study involved four classes of    second semester which were divided into two groups; experimental group and control group. Data were collected through pre-test and post-test and the research sample was selected by the cluster random technique.

The data were analyzed by using Statistical Product and Service Solutions (SPSS) 16 for Windows. The calculation result of independent t-test on post-test scores showed that p-output is 0,809 and the t-value is 0.242. Since the p-output was higher than 0.05 level and t-value was lower than t-table or 1.674, at the significant level p > 0.05. So that, the null hypothesis (Ho) was accepted and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was rejected. By considering that video could improve students' speaking skills during teaching and learning activities, therefore videos are a suitable media to enhance learning outcomes when this COVID-19 pandemic. Based on these findings, it is suggested that students can improve their speaking skills using various techniques in learning English either using videos or using story jumpers to make students more fluent in speaking English.
