In education, assessment is very crucial. To assess the achievement of students on 

the material which has been taught, teacher gives the students question in the form of a 

test. Teachers should consider the importance of constructing a good test to examining 

the students’ achievement. A test can be categorized as a good test if it meets criterias of 

good test, one of which is having good content validity. The test can be said to have met 

good content validity if the test is in accordance with the objective to be measured. This 

research intended to analyze whether or not the English Summative Test of Grade XI 

SMA Negeri 1 Martapura has a good content validity and in accordance to the indicators 

on the English syllabus.

 

This research conducted descriptive qualitative method. The object of this 

research was English Summative Test of Grade XI SMA Negeri 1 Martapura Given in 

Even Semester Academic Year 2019/2020. The writer used researcher-as-instrument, 

checklist table of content validity analysis adapted from Nofiyanti (2011), and 

documentation as the instrument. 

 

The result of this research showed that the English summative test for Grade XI is 

sufficient to meet the criteria of good test. It was found that 40 items or 100% were in 

accordance to the indicators on the English syllabus. In accordance with Arikunto's 

criteria, this figure falls into the “very great” category. Meanwhile, there are some 

indicators which have not tested in the summative test items. 4 indicators from the total 9 

indicators suggested on the English syllabus were not tested in the English summative test 

items.

 

In conclusion, the English summative test which was administered in Grade XI 

SMA Negeri 1 Martapura has a good content validity, although the test-maker should pay 

more attention to the generality of the indicators in each test item by representing all the 

indicators in the summative test items in order to fulfill the demanded achievement which 

is reflected in the indicators on the syllabus.
