Textbook is one of the most important things in teaching and learning process. It provides material related to what will discuss in a class, course, or lecture. It can help the students and teachers in teaching and learning process. This study is to gain information about the Content Description of FORWARD AN ENGLISH used by Grade XI Office Administration Class of SMKN 1 Banjarmasin.

 

The research approach used this study is descriptive qualitative. Subject of research was a textbook entitled “Forward an English Course for Vocational High School Grade XI”. The research setting took place at SMKN 1 Banjarmasin (eleventh grade). Instrument and indicator of this research were adapted from content analysis by Hutchinson and Water (1987). The data were collected by documentation procedure. The data were analyzed using checklist from the subjective analysis. Afterwards, the data were analyzed to answer the research questions.

 

The findings show the textbook description is within the content analysis theory from Hutchinson and Water (1987). The researcher found that, language description required in the textbook, proportion of macro skill and micro skills work integrated to the subchapters of the book, text types included, the subject-matter of the English textbook is general for vocational high school not for specific major, organization and sequencing of the content throughout the course and within the course unit. 

 

In conclusion, the textbook give description within the content analysis for Specific purposes material.Then, it is suggested for the teacher to use this textbook and other materials to cover the subject matter area required in specific major. It is also suggested for the researcher to look for more references to give wider perspective about content analysis study
