The COVID-19 pandemic has affected every sector in all countries worldwide. It has forced the Indonesian government to implement policies moving conventional classrooms to online classrooms. Educational activities have been facing a big problem because there are many activities that are not sufficient theoretically but also practically. There are many issues and difficulties with using the e-learning system during the COVID-19 outbreak. The purpose of the research is to describe the implementation of online English teaching and learning and to describe the problems encountered during the online teaching-learning process at Sekolah Tinggi Teologi Gereja Kalimantan Evangelis Banjarmasin. This research used descriptive qualitative research as the approach of the research. The subject of this study is an English lecturer and 58 students in STT GKE Banjarmasin. The instruments that were used in this study were observation, questionnaire, and interview. In this research, the data were analyzed by using qualitative research. The results were then summarized into narrative descriptions. From observation, the researcher found that the lecturer constantly used Zoom as an online learning platform. In the implementation of online English teaching-learning, the teacher used presentation as teaching technique. There were teacher-student and student-student interaction, such as question and answer sessions and discussion in the online teaching-learning activities. From questionnaires and interviews, the study identified a major obstacle in conducting online teaching-learning in STT GKE Banjarmasin which is the accessibility and internet condition since most of the students lived in rural areas. Based on the results, the researcher suggests that the lecturer may use more varied teaching techniques so that the students more actively participate in the online learning process. Moreover, since accessibility is still the major factor in online learning success in STT GKE Banjarmasin, and potentially Indonesia in general, the government needs to require some more friendly platforms so that students’ participation can be increased. This is particularly important for students who live in rural areas with bad signal and internet connections.
