Creative thinking is very important in the 21st century to prepare
individual human beings who are faithful, productive, innovative, and creative
and contribute to the life of the community, nation, and state so that schools make
the ability to think creatively become one of the competences of graduating
students. This ability needs to be trained to students because it helps students in
the capability to see many directions and give birth to new ideas that are widely
used in learning and dealing with life problems. This study aims to describe the
level of creative thinking ability of students and describe the characteristics of
each level of creative thinking ability of students of SMA Negeri 4 Banjarmasin
in solving ecological problems. The study used a descriptive method with a
qualitative approach. The research subjects were nine students selected based on
the purposive sampling method, namely students of class X MIPA. The study
results showed that there were four levels of students' ability to solve problems
creatively on ecological concepts. Characteristics of the level of creative thinking
ability of students, namely the creative level, have the achievement of high
fluency, flexibility, and novelty aspects are classified as moderate. The
moderately creative level has a moderate achievement of fluency, flexibility, and
novelty aspects, and students with less creative level have the low achievement of
fluency, flexibility, and novelty aspects.
