Translation is the replacement of textual meaning in Source language(Bahasa Indonesia) by equivalent textual material in Target Language(English). The focus of translating is the meaning of the source language that should be transferred into the language text.This research aims at analyzing and describing to find the most common and frequent technique in translating a folktale made by the ELESP’s student of Lambung Mangkurat University.

The result of descriptive quantitative analysis shows that the most techniques committed by the students were in area of Adaptation which consists of 90 or 35% techniques. It is followed by Borrowing which identified 41 or 16% techniques that committed by the students. In addition, Discursive Creation became the least technique committed by the student in the number of 5 or 2%. After knowing the percentage of techniques committed by the students, it can be comprehended that Adaptation could be a guide for the teacher and students to have the closest natural equivalent in translating for the folktale. The teacher should give more explanation to the adaptation technique.

 Adaptation is a common and most frequent technique committed by the students. The technique replaces cultural element from source language into the cultural equivalent in target language which has the best suit for the theory that used in this research and for other researcher to conduct another research with another various instruments, and to include a larger population in order to investigate the problem more deeply.
