Consumed reef fish that are commonly found in the waters of Tamiang Bay are Grouper, Snapper, Baronang Fish, Yellow Tail Fish, Blue Bimtik Stingray and several other types of fish consumption (www. kkji.kp3k.kkp.go.id). The condition of the target fish in the waters of Tamiang Bay is very diverse, but there are no studies that lead to community structures in coral reef areas in the waters. So it is necessary to analyze the structure of the target fish community in the waters of Tamiang Bay using the belt transect method, abundance index, diversity index, abundance index and dominance index and analyze the physical and chemical factors of the waters to assess the condition of coral reefs at each observation station. The results of the calculation of the Diversity Index method are included in the medium diversity category with an H value of 1.788, the uniformity index (E) is included in the high uniformity category with an E value of 0.721 and the dominance index (D) with a D value of 0.181 which is included in the low dominance category. So that the results can also be concluded that the target fish community structure is in a stable condition. The results of temperature measurements ranged from 31°- 32°C, salinity ranged from 30 – 33‰ and brightness ranged from 19.9 - 23 meters. Consequently the temperature in the waters is still really great for the existence of reef fish, particularly target fish.

Ikan karang komsumsi yang banyak ditemukan di perairan Teluk Tamiang yaitu jenis Ikan Kerapu, Ikan Kakap, Ikan Baronang, Ikan Ekor Kuning, Ikan Pari Bimtik Biru dan beberapa jenis ikan komsumsi lainnya (www. kkji.kp3k.kkp.go.id). Keadaan ikan target di perairan Teluk Tamiang sangat beragam namun belum adanya penelitian mengarah ke struktur komunitas di area terumbu karang di wilayah perairan. Sehingga dirasa perlu menganalisis struktur komunitas ikan target di kawasan perairan Teluk Tamiang menggunakan metode transek sabuk, indeks kelimpahan, indeks keanekaragaman, indeks kelimpahan serta indeks dominasi dan menganalisis faktor fisik dan kimia perairan untuk menilai kondisi Terumbu karang di setiap stasiun pengamatan. Hasil perhitungan metode Indeks Keanekaragaman termasuk dalam kategori keanekaragaman sedang dengan nilai H’ sebesar 1,788, indeks keseragaman (E) termasuk dalam kategori keseragaman tinggi dengan nilai E sebesar 0,721 dan indeks dominansi (D) dengan nilai D sebesar 0,181 yang termasuk dalam kategori dominasi rendah. Sehingga hasil tersbut juga dapat di simpulkan bahwa struktur komunitas ikan target dalam kondisi yang stabil. Hasil pemgukuran suhu berkisar antara 31°- 32°C, salinitas berkisar antara 30 – 33‰ dan kecerahan berkisar antara 19,9 - 23 meter. Sehingga suhu di perairan masih sangat bagus untuk keberadaan ikan karang, khususnya ikan sasaran.
