Palm oil is the main commodity and the mainstay of the economy in Indonesia. South Kalimantan is one of the centers of palm oil production in Indonesia, after Riau, North Sumatra, West Kalimantan and Central Kalimantan. The area of ??oil palm plantations in South Kalimantan is 335,724 ha, consisting of Large Private Companies (PBS) covering an area of ??292,758 ha, People's Plantations covering an area of ??56,060 ha, and the State Large Plantation covering an area of ??4,906 ha, with a production volume of 674,037 tons. Oil palm products are produced on mineral and peat lands in South Kalimantan. It's just that productivity can vary depending on the quality. An understanding of land suitability or management such as on peat and mineral soils in oil palm plantation areas is also very necessary as a basis for determining technical cultural actions to be taken in order to ensure the sustainability of the productivity of a land.

This research was conducted with the aim of knowing the chemical properties of peat soils in Margasari Village, Candi Laras Utara District, Tapin Regency and mineral soils in Martadah Baru Village, Tambangulang District, Tanah Laut Regency under the auspices of oil palm plantations. The research and analysis was carried out from July to September 2021. The method used in this study was a quantitative descriptive method, namely by conducting a survey in the field. The sampling point was determined by purposive sampling by showing the existing canopy in the field. Soil sampling in the field at a depth of 0-30 cm for each type of soil. This research plan is intended to describe some of the chemical qualities of the soil planted with oil palm and will be analyzed for changes in the chemical properties of peat and mineral soils. Thus the approach of this research plan is to understand some of the chemical properties of peat and mineral soils in oil palm plantations at several points or locations of soil types.

Based on the results of the research that has been carried out by comparing the t-test of peaty soil and mineral soil, there was no significant difference in soil pH, Organic-C, Total-N, and available-P.
