HIGHER-ORDER THINKING SKILLS IS COGNITIVE LEVELS CONTAINED IN BLOOM’S TAXONOMY WHICH CONSIST OF ANALYZING, EVALUATING, AND CREATING. HIGHER-ORDER THINKING QUESTIONS CAN BE FOUND IN READING QUESTIONS, THIS IS CONSIDERING THAT THE READING QUESTIONS HAVE COMPREHENSION ELEMENTS AND IS RELATED TO THE HIGHER-ORDER THINKING SKILLS. THIS STUDY IS AIMED TO KNOW HOW IS ENGLISH LANGUAGE EDUCATION STUDY PROGRAM BATCH 2019 STUDENTS’ ABILITY IN ANSWERING READING QUESTIONS WITH HOTS THAT CAN BE SEEN BY MEASURING THE QUALITY OF THE STUDENT IN UNDERSTANDING READING TEXTS WHICH REQUIRES THEM TO THINK CRITICALLY WHEN ANSWERING READING QUESTIONS.

THE METHOD THAT USED IN THIS RESEARCH WAS DESCRIPTIVE QUANTITATIVE. THE SAMPLES OF THIS RESEARCH IS STUDENTS OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE EDUCATION STUDY PROGRAM BATCH 2019 OF LAMBUNG MANGKURAT UNIVERSITY. IN COLLECTING THE DATA, THE RESEARCHER WAS USING A READING TEST DISTRIBUTED INDIRECTLY TO THE STUDENTS THROUGH AN ONLINE TEST CONSIST OF 45 QUESTIONS OF MULTIPLE CHOICES BY USING GOOGLE FORMULIR.

THE RESULT OF THIS RESEARCH SHOWED THAT STUDENTS’ ABILITY IN ANSWERING ANALYZING, EVALUATING, AND CREATING LEVEL OF QUESTIONS HAVE A SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE IN RESULTS. FROM THE RESEARCH FINDINGS, IN ANSWERING ANALYZING AND CREATING LEVEL OF QUESTIONS, STUDENTS’ ABILITY IS CATEGORIZED AS GOOD WITH THE AVERAGE SCORE OF STUDENTS FOR EACH LEVELS WERE 76.01 AND 76.58. HOWEVER, FOR STUDENTS’ ABILITY IN ANSWERING EVALUATING LEVEL OF QUESTIONS ARE STILL CATEGORIZED AS ADEQUATE WITH THE AVERAGE SCORE OF STUDENTS WAS 69.96. IT MEANS THAT STUDENTS ARE ABLE TO ANSWER FOR BOTH ANALYZING AND CREATING LEVEL OF QUESTIONS, BUT STUDENTS ARE STILL NOT FULLY ABLE TO ANSWER EVALUATING LEVEL OF QUESTIONS. THEREFORE, STUDENTS’ ABILITY IN ANSWERING READING QUESTIONS WITH HOTS ONLY CAN ACHIEVED A GOOD RESULT WITH THE TOTAL AVERAGE SCORES WAS 73.55 AND CANNOT ACHIEVED AN EXCELLENT RESULT FOR THIS RESEARCH. IN CONCLUSION, ENGLISH LANGUAGE EDUCATION STUDY PROGRAM (ELESP) STUDENTS’ ABILITY IN ANSWERING READING QUESTIONS WITH HOTS IS CATEGORIZED AS GOOD.

IT SUGGESTED THAT STUDENTS OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE EDUCATION STUDY PROGRAM (ELESP) BATCH 2019 IN ANSWERING EVALUATING LEVEL OF QUESTIONS HAVE TO BE MORE CAREFUL IN FINDING OUT AN IMPLIED INFORMATION ON THE READING STATEMENT AND THINK CRITICALLY WHILE UNDERSTANDING THE STATEMENT.
