ABSTRACT

Santoso, M. Joko. (2021). Improving Student Learning Outcomes in Angle Measurement Using a Combination of Problem Based Learning (PBL) and Direct Instruction (DI) Models for Fourth Grade Students at Sungai Jinggah 1 Elementary School, North Banjarmasin. Thesis of the Pre-Elementary and Elementary School Teacher Education S1 Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Lambung Mangkurat University, Banjarmasin. Supervisor: Drs. Sunarno, M.Pd.

Keywords: Student Learning Outcomes, Angle Measurement, Combination of Problem Based Learning (PBL) and Direct Instruction (DI) Models.

The problem in this research is the low level of learning activities and student learning outcomes on the material of measuring angles. This is caused by the learning that is carried out using only the delivery method without any demonstration, learning is one-way and students are not directly involved so that students have not had concrete experience in learning. Efforts to overcome these problems are through a combination of Problem Based Learning (PBL) and Direct Instruction (DI) models. The purpose of this study was to describe the improvement in the quality of teacher activity, analyze the increase in student activity and analyze the improvement in learning outcomes.

This study used Classroom Action Research (CAR) which was carried out in 2 meetings. The subjects of this study were fourth grade students at Sungai Jinggah 1 Elementary School, North Banjarmasin, totaling 12 students consisting of 9 male students and 3 female students in the second semester of the 2021/2022 academic year. This study uses a quantitative approach. The data taken are qualitative data obtained through observing teacher and student activities and then using quantitative data obtained through written tests in groups and individually.

The results showed that the quality of teacher activity during 2 meetings increased from the percentage of 75% - 91.6%. Student activity during 2 meetings increased with classical completeness from the percentage of 75% - 91.6%. The learning outcomes of cognitive aspects during 2 meetings classically increased from 58.3% - 83.3%.

Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that the teacher's activities were carried out very well, the student activities were very active and the learning outcomes had achieved individual and classical completeness. It is recommended that the use of a combination of Problem Based Learning (PBL) and Direct Instruction (DI) learning models can be used as an alternative in increasing student activity which has an impact on improving student learning outcomes.
