This research is aimed to investigate how the management standard of
bilingual education program in SMP Al Mazaya is, the use of English in the Math
and Natural Science subjects in the teaching and learning process, and the
students? English achievement at SMP Al Mazaya. The research used descriptive
qualitative method. The subjects of this research are the principal, the students
from two classes at eight grade and the teachers of Mathematics, English, and
Natural Science. Interview, observation, and documentation are used as the
instruments.
The results of the research show that SMP Al Mazaya is on progress to
implement the standardized of bilingual education program. The school still needs
to improve many aspects of bilingual education program requirements. The use of
English as the language instructions for Mathematics subject is still lack.
Meanwhile the use of English for Natural Science is quite good. The results of
students? English achievement from first semester up to the current semester
show significant conversion.
The researcher would like to suggest that the school may provide the
training program for Non-English subjects teachers not only for basic English
conversation, but also in teaching the content of material in English. For the teachers,
they should improve vocabulary mastery related to the subject they teach in the class
and provide the material of Non-English subjects in English.
