            Reading is an important language skill for English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners to acquire the language. However, many students at SMPN 10 Banjarmasin face difficulties in reading comprehension such as finding the main idea and the meaning of words. Moreover, the reading strategy has not been used optimally from pre-reading to after-reading phase. The problems of this research are focused on whether or not there is a different achievement between the students who are taught reading comprehension by using SQP2RS and the students who are taught reading comprehension without using SQP2RS at the seventh grade of SMPN 10 Banjarmasin.

            This research used quasi experimental design and quantitative approach. The samples of this research were 42 seventh-grade students of SMPN 10 Banjarmasin based on purposive sampling technique. Twenty-one students of VIIB were chosen as the experimental group and twenty-one students of VIIE were chosen as the control group. Analysis of the data was done by using paired sample t-test and independent sample t-test on SPSS version 26.

            The results of this research showed that there is different achievement between the students who are taught reading comprehension by using SQP2RS and the students who are taught reading comprehension without using SQP2RS at the seventh grade. The students attain higher achievement in reading comprehension. In addition, they made progress on finding the main idea, finding specific information, and guessing meaning of words based on their posttest results. This is proved by the sig (2-tailed) value which was lower than 0.05 and the t-test which was higher than the t-table. The t-test was 3.456 while the t-table was 2.021 for df = 40 in the significance level = 0.05. Hence, it was suggested for the teachers and the students to use SQP2RS in reading activity, especially in reading a descriptive text in finding main ideas, finding specific information, and the meaning of words.
