Willingness to communicate (WTC) is the first layer of speaking development that has been used to determined students’ speaking performances. Many studies have been conducted before in relation of the WTC to other variables of languages learning that indicated a positive relationship of the WTC. However, little research has been investigated in exploring WTC inside the classroom despite the important role of the classroom to WTC, specifically in Indonesia. Therefore, to fill the void in that evidence-based study, this research aims at examining the connection between Indonesian students’ WTC and the classroom environment as the focus

This research employed a quantitative approach with correlation analysis in processing the data. The researcher used three most important aspects in the language classroom as the independent variables. They are teacher support, student cohesiveness, and task orientation. While students’ WTC as the dependent variable. The data was collected by two questionnaires that used, which are the WTC questionnaire and the classroom environment questionnaire as the instrument. It was shared to students of ELESP Universitas Lambung Mangkurat batch 2021 using simple random sampling technique. All of the analysis in this study was analysed by using the help of  Microsoft Excel and the SPSS program.

The finding of the study indicated that there were a positive and significance relationship to be found between the classroom environment and students’ WTC. In the correlation analysis that has been conducted, it was showed that all of the aspects of the classroom environment had connected with students’ levels of WTC. The analysis also showed the category levels of correlation that the aspects of the classroom environment had as both student cohesiveness and task orientation were at the moderate level of correlation while teacher support at the low level of correlation. Based on the findings, it can be interpreted that creating a supportive and conducive environment for students will affect students’ WTC as these two has been proved to in line in this study. Hence, the researcher suggested on the result of this study for teachers to construct environment that comfortable for students as strategy to promote students willingness to communicate using English in the classroom.
