Kabupaten Kotabaru dengan luas wilayah 14.489,69 Km, terletak di wilayah bagian Selatan dan Timur Kalimantan Selatan. Daerah pantai sepanjang 41 km dengan kedalaman laut sampai 40 m. Teripang (Holothuroide) merupakan golongan yang paling umum dan yang bernilai ekonomis penting. Hewan ini banyak terdapat di paparan terumbu karang kemudian juga di pantai berbatu atau yang berlumpur. Pada stasiun I ditemukan 2 jenis teripang (Holothuroidea) dengan total 15 individu/100 M² ( Holothuroidea) dimana jenis teripang kelling (Holothuria Atra) sebanyak 14 individu/100 M² dan jenis teripang pasir ( Holothuria Scabra) sebanyak 1 individu/100 M² individu. Pada satasiun II juga ditemukan 2 jenis teripang dengan total individu teripang kelling (Holothuria Atra) dan 1 jenis teripang pasir (Holothuria Scabra) sebanyak 1 individu dan pada stasiun III dimana kedua jenis teripang tidak ditemukan.
