           The reserch aim to describe the process of teaching writing at the tenth grade of SMAN 2 Kintap. The problems are focused on the process of teaching writing, including the approaches, activity to generate students’ idea, techniques and media used by the teacher. The subject of this research was the English teacher of tenth grade at SMAN 2 Kintap.This research used descriptive qualitative design. The techniques of collecting data are observation by observe the process of teaching writing and interview based on the result of observation.

           The findings showed that the teacher always use writing-for-writing which is the kind of writing that teachers do to make students use language in producing a text as an approach in teaching writing because the teacher want to help students able to create a written product by language. Meanwhile, the way to generate students' ideas as a pre-writing activity is brainstorming using pictures. In addition, the technique used is writing based on a template by imitate but students must change the content according of teacher’s instruction. Picture and audio recorder used as the media. Based on the findings, it is suggested when brainstorming, the teacher must group it according to arrangements that make sense to them based on structure of the text and on the use of media the teacher must explain the picture and adjust it to the structure of the text being studied.
