Writing a thesis is a research task by undergraduate students to graduate from a certain academic field. Writing a thesis is the final task that students must complete in the undergraduate program at university. However, many students have difficulty finishing writing their thesis. This research was conducted to find out the student problems in writing thesis and to find out the factor causes student’s problems in writing thesis.

This research used a qualitative approach andthe design of this research was descriptive. The subject in this research was a graduate student of Lambung Mangkurat University from batch 2014 who took 7 years to graduate from the university.An interview was used as a data collection tool by the researcher as part of the descriptive qualitative method design. The collected data was analyzed by reducing the data, presenting the data, taking the conclusion, or verifying.

The result of this research showed that there were some problems and factors that made it difficult for the student to write a thesis. The problems were lack of Self-Esteem, the student agreed if he was lack of basic knowledge about writing thesis, the student had an anxiety when he would come to guidance, the student also lacks of communication with his supervisor. Meanwhile, the factors caused student’s problem in writing thesis were Psychological Factor in decide to: (Self-Esteem, motivation and anxiety) and Sociocultural factor refers to: (social distance among students and society, and social distance between students and the supervisor). Therefore, it concluded that student in this research  have problems in psychologicalfactor which covers self-esteem and anxiety, and another factor was sociocultural factor which covers social distance between students and the supervisor.
