Politeness Maxim is a set of principles adhered to by the speaker in order to maintain stable relations with others. Maxim can also be analyze in the movies, analyzing politeness maxims in movies can be valuable for the teachers, as it provides real-life examples of communication strategies for teaching purposes. The aim of this study is to analyze how the main characters the "Language Lessons” movie employed the politeness maxim in conversation.

This study was done in the form of qualitative research using the content analysis method. The data in this study was the utterances of the main characters in the “Language Lessons” movie. The researcher take a role as the key instrument, and the research is conduct using table analysis. The documentation method was used to collect the data, whereby the researcher analyzed the transcript of the movie to obtain the data.

The finding shows that all six types of politeness maxims proposed by Leech are found in the movie. They were tact, generosity, approbation, modesty, agreement, and sympathy maxim. The tact maxim is the most frequently used by the main characters while the approbation and modesty maxim is infrequently used by them. Tact Maxim was the most frequently observed in the movie due to the teacher-student relationship between Cariño and Adam. As a language teacher, Cariño had to prioritize creating a positive and comfortable learning environment, which aligned with the Tact Maxim's emphasis on minimizing face-threatening actions. Moreover, these findings served as a valuable reference for English teachers. It is suggested that the utterance from the “Language Lessons” movie can be implemented as a medium in ELT.
