As a branch of linguistics study, pragmatics encompasses several studies. One of them is Implicatures, a study of utterances’ meaning which scopes are beyond their literal form. There are two types of implicatures: Conventional and Conversational Implicatures. Furthermore, Conversational Implicatures are divided into two categories: Generalized Conversational Implicatures and Particularized Conversational Implicatures. Through this paper, an analysis was done to investigate Conversational Implicatures—both Generalized and Particularized Conversational Implicatures—occurred within the dialogues in the Pilot episode of Abbott Elementary, a Sitcom starred and written by Quinta Brunson. The result of the analysis shows that there are in total 13 utterances with Conversational Implicatures, 8 Generalized Conversational Implicatures and 5 Particularized Conversational Implicatures. Out of 8 utterances of the former, 5 of them rose because of flouting maxim of quantity, while 2 of them rose due to flouting maxim of manner, and 1 rose because of flouting maxim of relation. Meanwhile, from 5 of the utterances with Particularized Implicatures, 3 rose because of flouting maxim of quality and 2 rose due to flouting maxim of manner. Therefore, making utterances with Generalized Conversational Implicatures appeared dominant.
