       Translation is the process of transferring message from the source language (SL) to the target language (TP). The two languages certainly have different sentence pattern or grammar. These language differences cause difficulties in translation. Translation’s difficulties are divided into two factors, namely linguistics factor and non-linguistics factors. In the linguistics factors are lexical, syntactical, and grammatical. Non-linguistic factors involve culture and ideology.

       This research is to find out English students' difficulties in translating narrative texts from English into Bahasa Indonesia. The study was descriptive-qualitative research. The data was collected, classified, analyzed and then drawn into the conclusion. The qualitative method was used to analyze and describe the students’ difficulties in translating English text into Bahasa Indonesia. The participants of this research are 15 ELESP (English Language Education Study Program) students at Lambung Mangkurat University Batch 2017. The instruments used were interviews, questionnaires and narrative texts.

       From the research result the writer found ELESP students had some difficulties translating narrative text more influenced by linguistic factors. there are five difficulties of linguistics factors faced by most of the respondents, they are difficulties in finding the right words for their translation, difficulties in translating the complicated pattern of English sentences, difficulties in translating an equal sentences so they add some unnecessary words, difficulties in arranging the Indonesian words which make the sentences are hard to understand, and difficulties in translating a text in a different sentences structure of English and Indonesian.
