This research was conducted in order to figure out the effect of Hangaroo Game and Word Jumble to students’ vocabulary mastery. The researcher tried to figure out the difference of score of vocabulary test before and after the treatment. The test focused on the vocabulary based on lexicogrammatical theory.

The method of this research is quasi-experimental research which means the researcher had the control of the treatment for the subjects. There were 65 nine grader students of SMP Negeri 9 Banjarmasin that were chosen as the subjects of this research. A test was administered in the sake of collecting the data related to students’ vocabulary mastery. There were pre-test and post-test. The pre-test was administered in order to find the current comprehension of the students in vocabulary. In between of the two tests, the treatments were implemented. Both classes got different treatment. In order to find the data about students’ vocabulary mastery after treatments.

As the result of the research, the students from both classes had limited comprehension on vocabulary proven by the students’ score of pre-test. After the treatments were conducted in both classes, they yielded better score in vocabulary. The change can be seen from each word classification. It is found that the mean score of the experimental class was 20,19. As it got different treatment, the control class yielded different mean score as well. The mean score was 17,29. The scores were used in the calculation of t-test. In order to test the hypothesis, the researcher conducted a calculation of the result of the students in the vocabulary test. The result of the t-test was used for the researcher to determined the final result of the research.

It is found that there was no difference of students’ vocabulary mastery taught using Hangaroo Game and students taught using Word Jumble. Both media are suggested to be used in the process of teaching and learning of English. For further research, it is hoped to be more curious and innovative to choose other media that can be used to aid the process of students’ vocabulary mastery.
