      Grammar is one of sub-skills which has to be mastered by the students. Grammar has a lot of language elements; one of them is degrees of comparison. Comparison is the process of comparing people, things, or places through the level of quality, quantity, or relation. It is formed from adjective and adverb. But this study is only focused on comparison of adjective.This study was aimed to describethe students’ ability in using degrees of comparison at the third grade students of SMPN 24 Banjarmasin.

This study used quantitative approaches with descriptive method. The population of this study was the 276 student of the ninth grade students. The researcher took 38 student as the sample.Furthermore, the instrument used in this study was test and interview.

According to the test result, itshowed that the students’ ability in using degrees of comparison was in the good categories. The percentage of each category is78,13% students who had ability in the items of the positive form 63,36 % students who had ability in the items of comparative form and 76,93 % students who had ability in superlative form.

Based on the results, the students need more practices and exercises about degrees of comparison whether its form or the usage of each degree of comparison, and also rememberall of irregular adjectives is important too. The teacher should be more creative and innovative in making it clear about the form and the usage of degrees of comparison to the students.
