Grammar is very important when we learn about English, especially in writing. In writing we need to pay much attention to vocabulary and grammar, although the authors often make mistakes. An error can be made when native and non-native speakers use English. This is why this study focuses on the most common types of grammatical errors found in red texts written by first-class students SMKN 1 Banjarmasin. The study material was the students' personal writing documents on re-texts about their final holidays. Students' recount texts were analyzed by reference to the classification of Dulay. et al (1982). The results showed that the total number of errors was 434 errors. The two types of common grammatical error were Verb Tense, which was shown by 118 error or 28% of the 438 errors, followed by Word Choice, which appeared in 60 times. In addition, the findings recommended that teachers apply appropriate techniques and strategies when redesigning texts that focus on the time and language characteristics of the text in the past to reduce the errors that pupils might make.
