ABSTRACT

This research entitled Form of Adaptation of Society to Flood Disaster at Bati-Bati Sub-District, Tanah Laut Regency, aims to analyze the form of community adat to flood disaster in Bati-Bati Sub-District of Tanah Laut Regency through indicator that is residence modification, alternative transportation usage, change of livelihood, social adaptation, and efforts to protect public facilities to reduce the negative impact of floods

The population in this study were 2,137 heads of families affected by floods, a sample of 327 heads of households determined based on the Krejcie and Morgan formulas. This study uses quantitative descriptive method, respondents selection by random sampling, data collection using questionnaires and direct interviews to respondents. Data analysis techniques characteristic of society using percentage technique, classification of adaptation level using Guttman formula.

The result of the research shows that the most adaptation form is the temporary floor elevation during the flood which is 79%. A total of 63.91% of the community adaptation at a moderate level. Flood disasters that occur almost every year to make people accustomed and ready if the rainy season.
