In a classroom interaction, “teachers’ talk” serves many important functions. By using oral language, the teacher and learners can exchange knowledge, feelings, attitudes, and maintain social relationships. Beside, “teachers’ talk” could also give the advantage for the teacher in gaining deeper understanding of students’ skills and motivation. In addition, “teachers’ talk” could also enable the teacher to investigate the learning environment itself. Based from the explanation above, the researcher want to conduct research to find out what are types of “Teachers Talk” use by teacher in the process of teaching on second grade students at SMP Negeri 13 Banjarmasin.

Researcher use observation to gather the actual data for examining the teachers’ talk types used in the English teaching and learning activities with the observation rubric referring to Flanders Interaction Analysis. The observation conducted 4 times in 2 classes which are VIII A and VIII E while the teacher is teaching the class.

Based on the findings, teacher use all types of teachers’ talk during the teaching and learning process. The types of teachers’ talk that teacher frequently used during the teaching and learning activities are “Praises or Encouraging” while the types of teachers’ talk that teacher seldom used during the teaching and learning activities are “Criticizing or justifying authority” for VIII A class and “accept or uses the ideas of students” for VIII E class.

Based on the research, it is recommended that the teacher in junior high school level to increase the amount of teachers’ talk especially “praising and encouraging” type, as it keep students motivated to learn English during teaching and learning process
