Writing is not an easy skill to learn for the students. Due to the students’ difficulties in writing an English text, the teachers have to prepare some methods that are appropriate for students to help them learn writing easily. Teachers can use many interesting media and techniques during the teaching learning prosses. In junior high school, procedure text is one of the main texts taught, especially to the seventh grade students. In writing procedure text, the students are faced with many challenges for example generic structure, using imperative verbs and temporal conjunction in the procedure text.

The objective of this research is to investigate and describe the process of teaching writing procedure text and the teachers’ problems in teaching writing procedure text at the seventh grade students of SMPN 27 Banjarmasin. This research was conducted by using qualitative approach. The design of this research was descriptive. The subject of this research was the English teachers who teach the grade seven students. Two teachers were chosen as the sample by using total sampling. In obtaining the data, the researcher used observation and interview as the research instruments.

Based on the result of the test, it was obtained that the process of teaching writing recount text at the seventh grade students of SMPN 27 Banjarmasin ran well. In teaching procedure text, the teachers used guided writing and completion as techniques. In addition, one of the teachers used picture as teaching media. Moreover, the teachers used attractive media and interesting activity such as working in groups to motivate the students to learn.
