            This research purposed to find out whether whether there is a difference on the students’ vocabulary achievement between students who are taught by using picture flashcard and who are taught by using word flashcard at the seventh grade students of SMPN 9 Banjarmasin. This research uses quantitative method with quasi experimental design. The population is eight classes which are consist of 240 students of seventh grade and the sample is two classes which are  consist of 60 students who are taken by using purposive sampling.

The findings of the research show that there is a differences in both classes. It can be seen from t-test calculation that t-test (4.61) > t-table (2.00), for significance level 0.05 and df 58. In addition, the difference can be seen from the students’ average score; 82.767 in post-test for experimental class which is taught by using Picture Flashcard and 65.3 in post-test for control group class which is taught by using Word Flashcard.

Based on the result, it is suggested to the English teacher to use Picture Flashcard  as an alternative media in teaching students’ vocabulary achievement because it made students motivate the students become more active to participate in teaching and learning process and the flashcards can make the students occupy new vocabulary within only a short time within the lesson .
