Listening plays an important role to provide the students with information to
build necessary knowledge for using the language in the language learning. This
thesis is aimed to find out whether there is any significant difference of student’s
achievement in listening ability who are taught by running dictation activity and those
without running dictation activity at seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Rantau
Badauh. This research uses quasi experimental method. The population is 58 students
of seventh grade and the sample is 40 students who are taken by using purposive
sampling.
Findings of the research show that the score of t-test (2,12) is higher than ttable (2,02), for significance level 0.05 and df 38. Based on the research result of pretest and post-test in Experimental group, it can be concluded that there is a significant
different of student achievement in listening ability who taught by running dictation
activity.
Therefore, Running dictation can be an alternative activity in teaching listening
skill, because it can motivate students and also improve their ability. Besides, it is
suggested to English teacher to apply Running Dictation activity as one of the
alternative in teaching English.
