The error collected was classified based on Dulays’ theory. Besides, the purposes of this study were to find out their frequency of occurrence and to find out the dominant errors which students made in using the simple past tense in writing recount paragraph. The form of this study was quantitative approach and designed as a descriptive method. Quanitative approach was used in this research because the researcher wanted to find the major/dominant error of the students by using percentage.Furthermore, the subject of this study was eleventh grade students of SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Banjarmasin which consisted of 20 students. The data were collect through writing test for students. The writing test was conduct twice with two weeks time span. The result of the error analysis process showed that students committed error into one type: Misformation (Regularizarion, Archi-form, Alternating Form). From the frequency of each error types in two tests, misformation in subtype archi-form was the dominant errors in the whole test with percentage 93.7%. Moreover, the lowest error was found in misformation in subtypes alternating forms and alternating forms categorized as the lowest errors. As the highest number of total percentages, archi-form was considered as the dominant errors among the types of errors occurred. These errors were found because most of the students were still influenced by their mother tongue and their Indonesian logical thinking. Besides, errors occurred because students generalized the rule and applied it incompletely. On the other hand, students are still on the learning process and making errors are something that acceptable to get success in the future.
