The different characteristic between English and Banjarese in term of variation of vowel sounds and inconsistency of English spelling may become the reason of pronunciation problems. This research aimed to find out the problems that are faced by Banjarese students of English Department of Lambung Mangkurat University batch 2018 in producing English vowels. This study used descriptive qualitative as the approach of the research. The 30 students were selected by using purposive sampling depends on the questionnaire results. This study used oral test, interview and questionnaire as the instruments. The data analyzed by using qualitative approach. 

            This study revealed that the students had problems in producing English vowels, there were; the students had difficulties to pronounce vowel sound that placed in a word that has inconsistence English spelling and pronunciation; students tend to replace the unfamiliar vowels of English with their native language vowels, known as interference, since English and Banjarese has different variation; The students tend to use the incorrect input or fossilization to pronounce unfamiliar English vowels. 

As suggestions, teacher needs to consider the students pronunciation problems in order to arrange pronunciation student’s materials and time allocation that might be useful for the students. Students also need to practice English pronunciation more especially on unfamiliar vowels by doing recording, imitating and speak English more. In addition, for other researchers, it is suggested to conduct the study about pronunciation that is more specific about the dialect of Banjarese language and also the other aspects of sound such as consonant and diphthong can be considered as the further research.
