Keywords: problem, writing,writing problem,recount text,tenth grade studentsWriting is the way to express idea or thought in words to transfer information for readers.Commonly, writing is the hardestthing for students because they have to practice more and through a long processto create a good writing.In this research, the researcher isinterested to find outthe students’ problem in writing recount text at tenth grade of SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Banjarmasin academic year 2017/2018.Therefore, the researcher employed descriptivequalitativestudyandused purposivesampling as the samplingtechnique. The participantswere32 students of X-B Accountancyclass. The researcher used test, interview, and documentationto gather the data. The result of the researchshowed that the students faced two main problems, namelygrammar and vocabulary aspect.Besides, there are still other problems faced by some of the students in content, organization, and mechanics. Those problems came from the students’ lack of practice in writing during class session.Therefore, the researcher suggeststhe English teacher to help the students to overcome the problems based on this research. The teacher also have to findout the solution to enhancethe students’ ability in writing recount text.
