The objective of this research is to find out whether there is any significant
difference on the students’ writing achievement between those who are taught by
using picture series and those who are taught by using lecturing method at eleventh
grade of MAN 1 Banjarmasin.
The research design was quasi-experimental. The researcher used pre-test and
post-test design. The experimental class is XI IPA 2 who was taught by picture
seriesand the control class is XI IPA 1 who was taught using lecturing method. Both
classes consist of 34 students as the sample. The data were collected by the students’
writing in narrative text.
The result of the experimental class is75.12 inpre-test then increases to82.79
in post-test. Incontrol class is 75.35 in pre-test then increases to 81.29 in post-test.It
also proven by the result of t-test that is 2.72, for significances level of 0.05, df of 66,
and the t-table is 2.00. It means the use of picture series increasedthe students’
achivement in writing skill.
Based on the result, it is suggested to apply this media for other grades or
level because with media picture series students will more interested and enjoy in
writing. The teachers are recommended to use picture series as media to increased
students’ writing achievement.
