Key Words: Syntactical Errors, writing,
This study was conducted to discover syntactical errors found in students’
English writing made by the third semester students. This study used a descriptive
qualitative design and 58 students were chosen based on activity in writing class.
The data was collected from mid-test exam to accomplish the study.
The data findings found many types of syntactical errors. From main
categories, the highest was started from determiner error, then followed by nominal,
agreement, number, verb-and-verb construction, preposition, pronoun, omission of
verb, passive transformation, word order, progressive tense, subordinate clause,
negative, question and transformation of there. The most of errors found were
intralingual errors.
This study suggests that the students should learn grammar by exposure to
the syntax. Many types of errors can be reduced from their production by
experiences of each syntax. Together with practice, the students will expand
linguistics limit to write better.
