ABSTRACT

Hais, Rizkya Nur’Ain, 2019, Students’ Ability in Making    Sentences of  Simple Past Tense          at Second Grade of SMP Negeri 19 Banjarmasin in Academic Years 2018/2019.            Sarjana Thesis.             This research is aimed to describe the students’ ability in making sentences of simple past tense at second grade of SMP Negeri 19 Banjarmasin. The sample of this study was 127 students. The technique of data collection in this research is writing test. The instrument of this research is written test. For first and the second test is also same materials with time allocated in answering the test is 30 minutes. Then the researcher made a conclusion of the result based on the following categories : very good, good, fair, poor, and very poor.

            The result of the researcher showed the second grade students’ ability of SMP Negeri 19 Banjarmasin in making sententences of simple past tense is in very good category because 5 students (3,9%), 17 students (13,3%) were good, 34 students (26,7%)  were fair, 19 students (14,9%) were poor, and 52 students (40,9%) was very poor.

            The researcher suggested the students to be more active in teaching and learning process,more practicing in make sentence of simple past tense, Teacher should give clear and simple explanation about grammar especially Simple Past Tense.
