Argumentative essay is considered the most difficult type of essay because writer must provide strong argument to convince the reader of the essay.  Furthermore, writer should notice the aspects of argumentation used. This study tries to describe the argumentation skill of Academic Writing Students of English Department of Lambung Mangkurat University in writing the content of argumentative essay. The research design was descriptive quantitative. The subjects of the research are Academic Writing course students of English Department of Lambung University. The data were collected by asking the students to write argumentative essays. Afterwards, the data were analyzed in order to find the argumentation skill in writing the content of the essay by using Toulmin’s model of argumentation rubric. It is found out that mean score of the students is 14.29. Therefore the students’ argumentation skill in writing the content of argumentative essays is considered good. However, the analysis of argumentation elements that students used shows that the use of opposition and refutation is low. It is suggested to students to practice more on how to write a possible opposing argument and its refutation. Furthermore, it is also suggested to conduct further research on argumentative essay and argumentation skill.
