Reading is one of important skills in foreign language learning, especially in
English. Almost everyone reads, some more than other, the variety on level of interest
in reading is quite wide, from different theme and length of text they have with
reading, we encouraged with the need to understand or comprehend what we are
reading, this brings up an interesting question on could affect the level of
comprehension someone has.
The research aims to find whether or not there are any correlation between
reading interest and reading comprehension ability among students of batch 2014,
whom already pass their reading III class. Test and Questionnaire were used in data
collection.
The result shows that among 56 numbers of students involved in this research,
only 6 have significant high level in reading interest, as well as reading
comprehension test. Researcher found that the r-table = 0.263 and r = 0.171 and the
determined coefficient for this research, with the 56 students’ as the purposive
sample, is 2.92% (df). r = 0.171 lies between 0.00 – 0.199, categorized as lowest
category or no correlation at all
It is suggested that for the students to try test their own ability outside of
classroom, that might help to improve their own English language ability.
