In writing III class, students are required to make writing product such as in the form of essay as their paper assignment.

In English Department of FKIP ULM,Students sometimes face the variety of problems while they are writing and categorized as errors.

One of the problems is in the linguistic area especially in morpho-Syntactic cal field. This condition leads the researcher to conduct a research to find out the

morpho-syntactical errors in their essays based on their paper assignment of Writing III subject at English Department of FKIP ULMbatch 2015.

Descriptive qualitative research was used as the approach and method. To find out the students’ error,students’ paper assignmentwas used as instrument.The researcher collects all the students’ essays from the whole Writing III classes (A1, A2,and A3) and starts to analyze the linguistic problem. To show what are the morpho-syntactical errors based on students’ essay, the result would be divided into two

classifications (morphology and syntax errors). Based on the finding, the students’ errors in morphology occur in affixation(181 or 73%), conversion (18 or 7%), compound (42 or 17%) and short form / abbreviation (4 or 3%). In syntax, errors happen in the area of using articles (70 or 55%), using correct form of tenses (32 or 25%) and using

preposition (24 or 20%).

From the result of this research, it is suggested for the lecturer to give attention regarding those problems. The lecturer can use many strategies to correct the students’ errors. One of the strategies is to highlight the wrong words and giving

personal comments in the essay submitted by the students. It will be more useful rather than only giving a score. For students, it is suggested to keep practicing and read more

to enrich their knowledge about linguistic especially in morphology and syntax area.

It will be useful l to improve their writing skill.
