This research was aimed to find out any significant difference on students’ achievement in writing procedural text between students who are taught by using Project Based Learning model and those who are taught by using Lecture model on the ninth grade students at SMP Negeri 5 Banjarmasin academic year 2017/ 2018.
This research used quasi-experimental design. The population of this research was the ninth grade students at SMP Negeri 5 Banjarmasin consisted of 340 students. Then, the researcher used Purposive Sampling technique to decide which class as experimental class and control class. As the result, IX A was experimental class consisted of 35 students and IX B was control class consisted of 34 students.
Based on the research result, Project Based Learning model has been proven to affect students’ achievement in writing procedural text because this teaching model enhanced students’ interest and their learning motivation so they tend to be more active and enjoying the learning process. The result of hypothesis testing also lower than 0,05 (,000 < 0,05). It meant the Alternative Hypothesis (Ha) was accepted.
