The objective of this research is to find the significant difference on the effectiveness of Survey Question Read Recite and Review (SQ3R) and Think Pair and Share (TPS) technique  in the seventh-grade students of SMPN 4 Banjarmasin in the academic year of 2018/2019. This research was conducted five times. The researcher used cluster random sampling. The samples are VII I and VII G. There are 26 students for VII I and 31 students for VII G. VII I as experimental class and VII G as control class. This research was conducted into five meetings for every class. It was consisting of pre-test, preparation, execution, analysis, and ended by post-test. In this study, the researcher applied the implementation of TPS and SQ3R to teach reading comprehensio. The researcher collected the data by using tests. The researcher analyzed the data by using calculated the mean score of students' post-test scores in experimental and control class, calculated t-test, and draw a conclusion. The score result of the post-test of the experimental class (37,14) which is higher than the pre-test (31,33). Moreover, the score results of the control class from the post-test (57,52) which is higher than the pre-test (25,76). The T-Value was 4.28, and the T-Table was 2.00. The T-Result is higher than the T-Table. The alternative hypothesis is (Ha) is accepted because SQ3R and TPS can give a significant effect on student's achievement in reading. The conclusion is there was a significant difference in student's reading skills who were taught using SQ3R and TPS techniques.
