     Extrinsic motivation is a motivation that requires an external incentive as the drive to do learning activities such as teachers, family, and friends (Winkel, 2005). The extrinsic motivation has important function to encourage students to get high learning achievement. The purpose of this research is to find out the correlation between students’ extrinsic motivation and their learning achievement in Intermediate Writing of English Department batch 2015. 

     The sampling was conducted by total sampling method. Data are collected by using Likert Scale. It consists of 38 item related to the factors that indicate extrinsic motivation. Meanwhile, the students’ learning achievements were taken from their accumulated score in Intermediate writing class. The Likert scale is validated by using Pearson Product Moment Formula. Meanwhile, Cronbach Alpha is used to find the reliability of the test.

     The result of the coefficient correlation (rxy) is -0,038. The researcher compared it with r table at sig. 0.05% (0.182). Correlation (rxy : r table = -0,038 < 0.182). It means H0 accepted Ha rejected. In other words, there is no correlation between students’ extrinsic motivation and their learning achievement in intermediate writing. It means students’ extrinsic motivation are not related with the students’ learning achievement.
